LIME HARLING / RENDERING IN FIFE

Lime Harling is a thrown or cast on finish and is the most common type of surface finish found in Scotland on mass masonry buildings. It provides a weather protective coating to the underlying masonry. It also provided a decorative coating to poor quality rubble stone construction.

Lime Rendering offers the same protective finish as Harling but provides a higher quality decorative finish which is often “Lined out” to imitate a fine ashlar stone. Again this was often used to hide poor quality rubble stone construction.

Stone & Lime Co carry out both Harling and Rendering using traditional materials and methods as well as modern materials and methods such as mechanical spray application.
