TRADITIONAL SAND MASTIC IN FIFE

Sand mastic is used as the jointing system between traditional timber window/door frames and the surrounding stonework. Traditional burnt sand mastic has been in use for around 200 years. The combination of oil and oil driers with the sand allows it to harden but remains flexible enough to cope with the differing expansion and contraction of the timber work. It maintains a well sealed and weather tight joint.
